Bon Marché

The wind is blowing right now and it sounds like the beach. And it's a lot warmer wind than it has been. I can't wait for the spring! It's coming... sometime. I just finished dinner, it's 10:00pm and I think we're going to watch Amilie in someone's room. For dinner I cooked a pork chop topped off with a goat cheese sauce, and potatoes and corn, and of course a baguette. Yummm. Now I'm full. In french there is no way to say "I'm full" because when you directly translate it, it means "I'm pregnant." Today I went to an outdoors store like Dicks called Decathlon. I felt so at home being there. And so I found the sales rack and bought some "bons marché" (good deals). So much for rock climbing class! The shoes were 50euros and you can't rent them. So I bought some 12euro tennis shoes and decided I'm gonna take "futsal" or indoor soccer with my neigbor Matt (he's from Iowa). I'm excited.

On Sunday I went to church with Juan. The church was charismatic. I knew this before hand because one of my friend's friends gave me a list of churches in the area. Anyways, It was another experience. For the first time I heard people speaking in tongues. Nothing crazy happened, nobody fell on the ground, or had any
snakes. But it was really interesting and I enjoyed it. I could tell God was moving in people's hearts all around me. It was just uncomfortable for me who has never regularly attended a church like that. I'm not sure if this is in the Bible or not, but when ever someone speaks in tongues, there's always an interpretation (makes since). So after someone would pray in a tongue, the pastor would ask someone to interpret and someone else would start speaking. That was probably the weirdest part. I loved singing worship songs with them in french. I saw some of the people that I met at the prayer meeting. I hope to hang out with them again, but I'm not sure I will regularly attend that service.

Now it's raining, and it still sounds like the beach...boy do I miss it. So this Friday I'm off to on 2 week adventure. And today we found out that because of the strike, our schedule has changed. And we actually have class when we planned our trip. So we're going to miss a week of school. Apparently it's no problem. Others, who have already booked flights are doing the same thing. Well I'm excited to see the eastern part of Europe and experience a new culture.

  1. Jordan,
Man I am just amazed at everything that's going on in France. It sounds a lot more similar to America than I had in my own mind. Thanks for keeping me updated.

  2. I work with your Mom at UPS, I to go to a charismatic church here in Clayton NC, after being raised a southern baptist, it took so getting used to, but I think the Lord works in mysterious ways, because I am so much closer to him, and I love my church family now, the regimen that we have as southern baptist sometimes holds us back.
Good luck on finding a great church, sounds like you are meeting God's people everywhere.
